A live vinyl album from the „Five Loves” program, prepared on the occasion of the 30th Theater Summer at the Agnieszka Osiecka Atelier Theatre in Sopot. André Ochodlo, recognized as one of the world’s most outstanding interpreters of Yiddish song, celebrated a unique milestone in his career in 2023 with a special project: FIVE LOVES – presenting his beloved chansons in five different languages. The album features recordings from the brilliant gala concert held on Saturday, July 8, at the Agnieszka Osiecka Atelier Theatre in Sopot, capturing the atmosphere of that evening and offering listeners the chance to experience the richness of Ochodlo’s artistic musical world.

The album opens the cycle YIDDISHLAND, a unique 12-CD collection, which apart from standards of Jewish music, comprises 120 new songs created by 12
contemporary Polish composers written to the greatest XX century
poetry in Yiddish whose authors were related to a large extent to Poland.
CD Silence features compositions to poetry by Abraham Sutzkever, who spent his childhood and youth in Vilna. Regarded as the most outstanding
exponent of Yiddish poetry, he was honored with the prestigious Prize of Izrael as the first author writing
in this language. 
“Silence” brings back to memory and pays due tribute to the poet, presenting 13 pieces selected from a wide spectrum of his literary output ranging from the lyricism of his homeland landscapes through the drama of war to eternal poems
of elaborate meanings.
As a commentary to Sutzkever’s poetry, the bonus track “Epilog” is introduced – an important poem by Itzik Manger, another great poet of the Yiddish language.
Each song is a deep interpretation both thanks to the multilayered
structure of the music performed by the well-known Atom String Quartet, Jan Smoczyński and Adam Żuchowski, which renders the whole richness of poetic metaphors, as well as the
singing of André Ochodlo expressing the slightest emotional nuances.

A jazzish song recital based on profound modernist poetry by poets from Galicia—works created in pre-war Vienna—and set to music by MarekCzerniewicz, a distinguished and experimentally oriented  Polish composer.

The title track by Shmuel Yankev Imber portrays successive days of life as fleeting phenomena and departing people and this choice is far from accidental. The entire album is imbued with a sense of transience, departure, and various forms of loss; yet it remains far from a mournful tone. It is not even about the eternal Jewish wandering, but rather about the general condition of human nature, universal in its message.

The CD is a tribute to Solomon MikhoeIs (1890–1948), who was one of the most renowned Jewish-Soviet actors and directors of the 20th
century. As the artistic director of the Moscow State Jewish Theater, he shaped Yiddish culture until he was murdered by the Soviet
secret police in 1948 on Stalin’s personal order. It is also a tribute to all great Russian Jewish poets writing in Yiddish and shot during
the “Night of the Murdered Poets” in August 1952 in in the notorious Lubyanka Prison.
The artistic result is a musically sophisticated and multifaceted album, thanks to the outstanding compositions and arrangements as well as exquisite interpretations by Ochodlo and top class musicians from Austria, Germany and Poland.

To honor the great Master of yiddish poetry, Abraham Sutzkever, we devoted the initial and the closing album of the YIDDISHLAND collection to him. The songs are broadly understood as “prayers” – addressed to God, but also to lost loved ones, to distant family homelands, and filled with questions about an uncertain future and the meaning of life.
The poet, as he himself states, has carried prayer within him for years, and setting it to music allows all its subtle, non-obvious shades to resonate fully.

It contains all the poems in the original Yiddish (written in both Hebrew and Latin alphabets), as well as translations into Polish and English. Biographies of all the poets are also included. A CD titled „YIDDISHLAND – trailer” is attached to each copy. The album won an honorary award in the „Most Beautiful Books of the Year 2017”competition, and Joanna Kwiatkowska received an award for the layout and graphic design. Additionally, two volumes edited by Adam Żuchowski, containing sheet music for all songs from the YIDDISHLAND collection, are available in our Allegro / Amazon stores.
