André Ochodlo interprets poetry by outstanding authors of world recognition: Paul Celan, Rose Ausländer, Selma Meerbaum and Itzik Manger, to which music was written specially for him by well-known contemporary Polish composers. Ochodlo performs the songs accompanied by a band of musicians from Poland and Saxony. The program focuses on Czerniowce, the capital of the old Habsburg Duchy of Bukovina – “a place where people lived and books” (Paul Celan). This is a place of polyethnic roots and cosmopolitan spirit, where a unique symbiosis of German, Roman, Slavic and Jewish cultures was born. The recital is to bring back the forgotten past, remind us of this place at the end of the earth – a miracle and a wound at the same time, as well as to give voice to persecuted, banished and murdered poets in order to fill their words with new life.

A unique recital composed of the most beautiful, traditional Jewish songs in contemporary arrangements, enriched with new compositions often created especially for André Ochodlo, selected from his phenomenal collection Yiddishland. This remarkable concert reflects the artistic path which André Ochodlo, one of the most acclaimed interpreters of Yiddish songs, followed over more than 30 years of concerts in the Agnieszka Osiecka ATELIER Theater in Sopot and all over the world. The songs performed by Ochodlo form a compelling story of east European Jews and their unusual culture available to us mainly thanks to human memory, books and captivating songs in Yiddish.
